How To Document and Develop A Recipe To Scale For Production

Hints: If you cook your recipe to taste and do not measure your ingredients, here is one simple way to find out.

Put all your ingredients on the table. Ingredients include spices, sugar, flour, cornstarch, prepared items such as tomato paste, whole vegetables, water, etc. Weigh and measure each one before adding them to your recipe. You do not need to worry about pre-weighing each one while you are cooking and tasting because when you are done, you are going to weigh all the left over ingredients and do a little math.

STEPS TO SUCCESS
1. Document Your Recipe

Mark down all the ingredients used in your recipe. If you are not sure exactly what you put in click here
Weigh and Measure each ingredient for a specific volume or batch (e.g. recipe makes 4 quarts).
Identify ingredients that need to be premixed or prepared together
Cooking time and temperature for your product.
Identify any special tricks you do.
2. Pick Your Packaging Options - container and labels

3. Send Your Recipe and Finished Packaging Requirement to JES

4. Get Your Product quoted For Manufacturing
Once your sample is approved and you have decided on the packaging, JES will work with you to help you with your costs. Some recipes are more costly to produce than others. This step is important to identify your costs so you can mark it up accordingly. Our industrial chief will help you with this process.
5. Get Your Bench Sample

JES will provide a "Bench Sample" back to you along with the ingredients label and nutritional information required by the FDA. We will even supply you with the bar code for your product. Although we do not do label design or printing of labels, we can furnish you a graphic design and printing company to do so.
